What Afterimage does
Afterimage's platform reads a patient's medical records, tests whether the diagnosis holds up, and assembles the record a patient needs to hold a provider to account for a missed or delayed diagnosis. It then feeds the pattern back to providers so the same miss stops repeating.
The secret
Diagnostic error persists because it carries no measurable cost. Afterimage attacks it from the accountability side rather than the clinical side, on the theory that once a missed diagnosis shows up as a price, system-wide accuracy improves on its own.
Why NZVC invested in Afterimage
We backed Afterimage because diagnostic error is one of the largest sources of harm in medicine and almost nobody is accountable for it. Most approaches try to make clinicians better at the bedside. Afterimage works from the other end, reading the record after the fact and making a missed diagnosis visible and costly, which is the pressure that changes behavior across a whole system. The team is building for a problem every health system has and none has priced.
