What Syos Aerospace does

Syos Aerospace

Syos Aerospace's AAIMS open-architecture autonomy layer runs across all of these domains, letting a single software backbone control very different platforms. Syos is one of the world's largest manufacturers of uncrewed surface vessels, and the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence invited it into the Project NYX helicopter-drone program. In March 2026 the New Zealand Defence Force contracted Syos to supply uncrewed surface vessels, aircraft and a ground vehicle. The company is headquartered in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom, and runs its high-volume production facility in Fareham, Hampshire.

The secret

The vehicles a country sends into danger are going to stop carrying people. Syos builds the autonomy once and runs it across every domain, so a customer that starts with a helicopter drone can add surface vessels and ground vehicles without changing the software that controls them.

Why NZVC invested in Syos Aerospace

Syos Aerospace: crew working

We backed Syos Aerospace because autonomy is becoming the decisive layer across defense and industrial robotics, and Syos builds it once and runs it across air, land, sea and subsurface rather than betting on a single platform. Being one of the world's largest makers of uncrewed surface vessels gives the company real manufacturing depth. The invitation into the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence's Project NYX program signals the kind of validation that opens serious markets.
