Kara's avatars began delivering real-time New Zealand Sign Language translations

Kara moved its avatars to real-time translation of New Zealand Sign Language rather than pre-recorded video. Auckland Transport is the first major rollout, covering train, bus and ferry announcements.

We backed Kara because Deaf communities have long been served by expensive, slow, human-only sign language production, and Kara turns that into scalable software. Real-time translation is the step that makes everyday information, from a platform change to an emergency broadcast, reach Deaf users at the same moment it reaches everyone else. The team's trust with Deaf users, shown during New Zealand's COVID response, is what let it get there.
